Pay Them

On the heels of the Cam Newton scandal at Auburn, the topic of paying college athletes gets raised. In my opinion they should be paid in accordance with whatever their individual sport is able to bring in financially to the school. In a day where everyone is vying to be the next "big thing" and the opportunities of cashing in are everyhwhere, its getting harder and harder for these student athletes to say no to sports agents.
I'm not saying they should be makikng an absorbant amount of money, but an incentive of pay would go a long way in cleaning up the negative aspect that money can play in college sports. I don't give a damn about the argument that they are paid through scholarships and that is sufficient enough. It is not enough in todays world and won't be 20 years from now either. When was the last time you saw a tuition decrease or ticket prices lowered? It never happens, and I would rather pay a couple extra bucks for a football ticket if I knew that it was going to the players I have paid to see play. If they don't want to pay them, then there shouldn't be subject to NCAA rules barring them from using their celebrity to make an income outside of class and practice.

Yes to profiling.

When does safety go to far? According to some, the addition of these full body scanners has indeed reached the limit of safety measures. While many others view it as a necessary step to protect our way of life. This hot button topic is exactly why we need to accept profiling as a necessary step in fighting terrorism. I'm so sick and tired of the pretending that we shouldn't profile anybody. The fact is that most people will still look at Muslims s and wonder whether or not they look suspicious before they see a middle aged woman and wonder if she is packing a bomb in her granny panties. I'm sure nobody wants to go the airport and get body searched by a sassy middle aged frump of a woman or a crochety retired sherriff looking for some way to stay useful in society, but since we are so afraid of offending people and the thought of profiling we will continue to be subjected to x-ray scans and other invasive measures.
